Making a Positive impact for ALS patients and their families.
The Tonie Guay Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) throughout Maine and New Hampshire.
Our mission is to ease the financial burden that often comes with an ALS diagnosis by providing assistance for non-covered medical expenses and everyday living costs. We understand that ALS impacts more than just health - it affects every aspect of daily life - and we are committed to helping families maintain stability, dignity, and quality of life during an incredibly challenging time.
Through community support, fundraising, and compassionate outreach, the Tonie Guay Foundation offers financial relief for needs such as:
Medical equipment and supplies not covered by insurance
Home modifications and accessibility needs
Transportation to medical appointments
Everyday household expenses
We believe no family should face ALS alone. Our goal is to provide meaningful support when it’s needed most, allowing individuals and their loved ones to focus on what truly matters - time together.
Why We Do This
The Tonie Guay Foundation was created in loving memory of Tonie Guay - a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Tonie was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 63 and, after a courageous journey, passed away in 2013 at the age of 69.
Before her diagnosis, Tonie lived a vibrant and healthy life. Her strength, compassion, and dedication to her family continued to inspire everything we do.
Since Tonie’s diagnosis, our family has been committed to raising funds and awareness for ALS through various organizations. Over the years, we have had the privilege of connecting personally with individuals and families living with ALS. Through these relationships, we gained a deeper understanding of the daily challenges they face - not just medically, but financially and emotionally.
Those experiences led us to create the Tonie Guay Foundation, with the belief that we can make the greatest impact by helping individuals directly. By supporting families with real, immediate needs, we honor Tonie’s legacy in a meaningful and personal way.
Her story is the reason we do this. Her memory is the heart of our mission.
